Raleigh Water Restriction Fines Adding Up
On Tuesday, August 28th the city of Raleigh put into effect Stage 1 water restrictions. Nearly a month later, the city has handed out citations worth nearly $60,000!
What I find amazing about this fact is that 267 citations went out for first offenses and cost each person or business $200. That amount adds up to $53,400…so where is the other $6000 come from?
Well, believe it or not, the city has had to hand out six citations of $1000 penalties!
What that means is someone was watering their grass on the wrong day (odd addresses on Tuesday midnight to 10am, even addresses on Wednesday midnight to 10am) and got in trouble…maybe they even got a warning, but they got fined $200. Then, they did it again and it cost them $1000!
That’s $1200 in fines for watering your grass on the wrong day. Learn how to work the timer on your automatic sprinkler system!
Now, if the drought continues to worsen, Stage 2 restrictions would basically eliminate all watering outside and all car washing. Let’s hope it doesn’t get to that.
Lots more on the drought here.
