Weatherman Ruins Baseball Opening Day

One of the best days of the year for sports fans is usually the Major League Baseball opening day.  This year, that came in the form of a domed game in Japan with the Boston Red Sox versus the Oakland Athletics.  The second opening night came Sunday when the Washington Nationals hosted the Atlanta Braves in their first game in their new stadium

So, the “third” opening day happened Monday when all the teams got in on the fun…but I don’t know if there was a lot of fun being had by the fans or players.

The weather around the country, including here in the Triangle, was generally cold and wet.  That cold, wet, windy weather had a big impact on opening day.

In Washington, D.C., it was pretty cold for the opening of Nationals Park Sunday night.  In Chicago at Wrigley Field, it was cold, wet and windy.  They got their game in at the friendly confines, but it was a different story in St. Louis, where the rain ended the Cardinals and Rockies first game of the year.  More cancellations in New York as the Yankees tried to have their final home opener at Yankee Stadium before they tear it down next year.
