Bad Weather Now Delays Shuttle In May

We just can’t win!  How is it that bad weather in March can delay the space shuttle in May?  Even more, how is it that bad weather in New Orleans, Louisiana can delay a launch in Florida?

Here’s the deal.  The external fuel take is assembled in New Orleans and travels to Florida on a barge.  Bad weather in Louisiana late in March kept the tank from leaving on time, so NASA decided to move the launch back a few days.

NASA also decided to give employees Memorial Day weekend off, so moving the next launch back to May 31 kills two birds with one stone.

Discovery will head back the International Space Station on mission STS-124 May 31 at 5:01 p.m. EDT.
