30 Year Forecast…Come On!
The year 2037 is nearly thirty years away. So if I were going to say something like “North Carolina will almost certainly be hit by a major hurricane in the next thirty years,” that wouldn’t be too bold of a forecast. The odds of anything within reason happening over the next thirty years are pretty good.
Well, it seems that’s exactly the kind of forecasting scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey are saying about an earthquake hitting California. Their exact words…”California has more than a 99% chance of having a magnitude 6.7 or larger earthquake within the next thirty years.”
California has plenty of earthquakes each year…in fact, they have about 10,000 EVERY YEAR, although most of them are too small to even be noticed you California residents. So, saying that one of those over the next thirty years (that would be one out of 300,000) is going to be 6.7 or higher…
Anyway…just an interesting story I ran across today…but to be on the safe side, if you have plans to move to California, you might want to put them off until 2038!
