A Softball Home Run To Make You Cry
The NBC17 softball team was on the wrong side of the win/loss column in Sunday’s game. Our record is 1-3, but if that has you a little depressed…this softball story will make you happy and maybe even sad.
Later in the day after icing up my numerous softball injuries, I plopped down on the couch to watch my Cardinals beat Bill Reh’s Cubs. Normally after a game that late I would hit the sack, but SportsCenter kept talking about an inspirational softball home run that would rival the emotion of some of the greatest home runs ever.
The story was worth staying up for. It begins with a senior on the Western Oregon University softball team taking a one strike pitch over the center field wall for her first home run ever. As she rounded first, she missed the base. Understandable, given the amount of excitement she must have been feeling. When she turned back around to touch the base, she fell to the ground as a result of tearing her knee ligament.
This is where the story really begins, if she doesn’t round the bases, the homer doesn’t count. But, two players from the opposing team, Central Washington, knew this and CARRIED Sara Tucholsky around the bases.
Here’s the rest of the story and some video to help paint the picture…
