Strong Triangle Storms, Amazing Pictures

Another round of storms moved through central North Carolina on Wednesday, July 9, 2008.  While this line of showers and thunderstorms brought us more beneficial rain, it also brought some damaging winds, lightning and awesome pictures to share.

To start…here is what Precision Vipir looked like right about the time all the pictures were taken.

The first picture was taken in the Triangle as the first line of storms starts to move in.

This is by far, the most drastic look at how the storms brought about night a little earlier than expected.  This look from Holly Springs shows the leading line of storms.

Lightning was frequent throughout the evening and the Beckner family from Holly Springs was able to capture just one of the hundreds of strikes from the system.

Finally, after a few days of rain, the soil wasn’t able to hold this tree and its roots any longer.  A strong gust of wind from one of the thunderstorms knocked this tree over, destroying the second floor of this Durham resident’s home.  Luckily, no one was on the second floor and no one was hurt, including the family’s cat!  Another amazing thing not seen in this picture is how soon the insurance company was there the next day getting the tree removed.  Now, that’s service!!
