Dog Eats Washcloth, Exits The Hard Way
It’s an unwritten canine rule that dogs will eat any human food that they are not supposed too. Perry, a six year old Dalmatian, takes that rule to an entirely different level. Perry believes he can eat ANYTHING, food or otherwise.
Perry is a member of the NBC17 family through his news producer mom, Leah. From time to time throughout his life Perry has opted to eat non food items…most times figuring out later that they don’t belong in his stomach and nature takes care of it one way or another.
Recently though, Perry decided to eat what appeared to be an entire washcloth. This time, nature couldn’t do anything to help and to avoid an unfortunate ending; Perry had to pay a visit to the emergency vet. After a few hours of surgery, the washcloth and a few other items were removed from his stomach. Two days later Perry was back at home with one extra accessory you can see in the pictures.
Perry and his mom Leah seem to be adjusting well to life with one less washcloth in the house. To stay busy, Leah has a small pet sitting business called A Leash Lunch. Check it out and give her a ring if you need someone to check on your pet during lunch while you are at work.

update…Perry has not learned his lesson. I’ve wrestled away at least one wash cloth since the surgery! And he ate a peatnut better cup…with the wrapper still on.
Oh well…he’s hard to like sometimes…but I love him!
Have you considered leaving Perry muzzled or crated during the workday so that he doesn’t end up eating something that could kill him or make him very, very sick? If both options seem too extreme, how about doggie day care where he would be supervised or even leaving him in less than a muzzle but rather, a ‘gentle leader’ that allows him to still lick, etc but limits the amount he can open his mouth…just some thoughts…
thanks jenipher…but he does these things while i’m home, lol. he waits until i get on the phone, or i start cleaning, etc…and off he goes to swallow bad things.
Leaving dogs muzzled for extended periods of time is very dangerous according to my vet. When I’m not home, I have a web cam on him…and he sleeps all day.
He’s been this way since he was a puppy, but this is his first bad experience. i just have to keep my eye on him.
Perry is so precious. I am also glad that you caught this time so that the surgery was a success. I too am forever taking things away from my pups, such as house slippers. socks, hand towels, etc. This story has made me more aware. By the way their pictures are on this blog. Their names are Gunther & Gidget, they are now almost 7 months old.

poor Perry. Thank goodness Leah caught it in time for a successful surgery. perhaps Perry learned his lesson this time. nope, probably not.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Perry for a speedy recovery! He’ll be back to eating everything and anything in no time
