My Winter Olympic Experience In Salt Lake City

We are right in the middle of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada but eight years ago I was in the middle of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. At the time I lived in Salt Lake City and worked for the ABC station doing morning weather during the week. Since I worked for an ABC station and not NBC…I had no media access to the games, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me from attending the games.

I was able to see Apolo Ohno in short track speed skating, including the night he won a medal despite an exciting crash. I learned about and experienced a curling match, including their crazy dressed fans. I got to attend the gold medal women’s hockey game and I spent a day at the luge track (not pictured.) I also had the Olympic torch go right by my house before the games started.

Each night, there was a concert and medals ceremony at the medals plaza. Stars like Creed, Martina McBride and Train performed for fans. Check out some of my pictures from the games below!

February 2010 North Carolina Snow Pictures

It seems of late every weekend that comes around, has snow in it…and this weekend was no different. It started Friday night, February 12 and continued to the early morning hours of Saturday, Saturday, February 13, 2010.

It was a wet, heavy snow, perfect for snowballs and snow men…but if you didn’t get up early enough Saturday…you may have missed the white stuff. The snow melted very quickly Saturday and for now, there isn’t any snow in the forecast for central North Carolina.

January 2010 North Carolina Snow Totals & Pics

Our first significant snow storm of the new decade hit Friday, January 29th and Saturday, January 30th. Here is a look at how much snow everyone in central North Carolina got.

Smith Elementary School Sings on NBC17

Throughout the holiday season NBC17 was broadcasting live weather from Crabtree Valley Mall. Each night we also had holiday music to entertain our viewers and mall shoppers. The Smith Magnet Elementary School Singers in Raleigh helped us out December 15, 2009.
